Voters' registration extended but Comelec still refuses to recognize the people's demand, cites typhoon Santi instead

The Comelec chairman and his commissioners are more becoming like the president who appointed them in their current positions.
A Comelec official announced today that they will be extending the voters' registration until Tuesday , but only to areas affected by the power outage caused by typhoon Santi. That is, to say, had Santi not wrecked havoc, the Comelec would not have ordered an extension. This only illustrates Comelec's brazen nonrecognition of the appeals of many individuals and groups that have questioned the shortened period of voters' registration.
Comelec also reasoned that they had to order the extension as against their initial plan because they could not use their data-processing machines due to the power outage. This now goes in contrast with their claims of preparedness for the 2010 poll automation. It is quite unthinkable what might transpire should there be a massive power outage during the canvassing of votes come election 2010.
